If you are like me and like to get your workout done in the morning it can be tough to get in a proper post-workout recovery meal. To promote quick recovery it is important to eat within 30 minutes post-workout. I often make a recovery smoothie since it’s easy to make and portable. Ideal post-workout meals contain a combination of protein and carbohydrate to aid in refueling and rebuilding muscle after exercise. My PB&J Recovery Smoothie is a favorite of mine, not only because it’s delicious but also because it has some great, nutritious health benefits. The coconut oil and flax seed provide monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats containing Omega-3’s, which help decrease inflammation and assists recovery after an intense workout. It also provides plenty of protein thanks to the almond butter and protein powder. This smoothie is also filling enough to act as a meal replacement that keeps me full until lunchtime. Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
1 tsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp almond butter
1 Handful of blueberries
2 Tbsp protein powder (my favorite is Vanilla Perfect Fit Protein)
1 tsp ground flaxseed
1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
1 tsp ground cardamon (optional)
Add ingredients and blend! This is a meal replacement and should keep you full until lunch.
